I second this, I have loads and loads of essentially only .tif files and it would be amazing if I could view them in Obsidian!

Please do add this functionality. It would be absolutely of value.
We can work with what is natively supported by the intersection of chrome and safari
I understand that Chrome / Electron do not support TIFF image format and that there have been previous discussions about it Cannot embed tiff images
But TIFF is quite common on macOS.
How about a on the fly converter to show embedded TIFF images, like using something like this as a basis: tiff - npm
