What I’m trying to do

I JUST now downloaded Obsidian, so I know almost nothing. I want to document my life so far… growing up, school, military, residences, travels, relationships, dates, etc. Any suggestions at all. I know it’s an open question, any info will help. Thanks.

Things I have tried

I don’t even know where to begin or what to search for!

If you’re not sure how you want to approach it, you can just start writing, and structure it later. Obsidian supports that approach well. In the extreme, you could make a single note and type it. If the file browser starts to feel too cluttered, you can make some folders. You can link to other notes like on the web if that’s convenient, or not. You can always find notes by using the Quick Switcher (fast filename search) or the full text Search.

You may want to organize things topically or chronologically, but you don’t necessarily have to choose between them. You can make overview pages that link to other notes or even embed views of them.

If the way you start organizing doesn’t work out, you can reorganize.

Other than that, check out the documentation to read about the app’s features and how they work.
