Deleted vault recovery

For some reason, my entire vault disappeared from my Mac. Yes, I lost a lot of files, a lot of them. I’ve tried every way to recover them. I can’t. My last resort is to ask for help here. Is there any way to recover them?

Did you have it on iCloud?

I asked on Discord but didn’t see an answer.

Please try to tell us more information. Obsidian just works on files stored on your computer, so it completely depends on where you had them stored.

If it was a cloud sync tool like iCloud or Dropbox or Google Drive, you might have a backup in that tool.

If you have Obsidian Sync the files might be in your remote vault.

If you combined two or more cloud sync tools, that might explain what happened. They possibly fought each other.

You say you tried to recover the files. How? What did you try?

Finally, whether you get the files back or not (I hope you do), I highly urge you to make proper backups of your important data from now on. (And sync tools are not sufficient as full safe backups.)

Hi, let me explain. The vault was on my Mac. I think I deleted it, and that’s why I can’t recover it. I have iCloud and OnDrive synced, and my notes weren’t saved there. Suddenly, when I opened Obsidian, it was empty. I simply lost everything. Is there no way to recover it?

If the files and in the system trash bin, I believe both iCloud and OneDrive have ways to recover deleted files, if they were deleted within the last 30 days. I don’t know the details of how to do that, but they should be documented.
