Use case or problem
When creating a new file, the file is created in the top level of the vault. I use folders to organize files, and each time I create a new file, I have to move it to the appropriate folder lest I forget. Also, moving a file throuth the hierarchy is doable on a PC client (Linux/Windows/…) with a large screen and a mouse, but it is a bit of a chore on a tablet or a smartphone.
Proposed solution
There should be an obvious way of creating a file in a particular folder.
- Provide a sensible default, let the user change it later
- If a folder is selected - create the file in that folder
- If a file is selected - create the file as a sibling of the selected file
- Provide the user with a sensible set of choices for a folder: When a file is created, …
- … suggest the folder that is currently selected and/or
- … suggest the last three or five folders most recently used
Current workaround (optional)
No real workaround. Create the file, write into it, forget to move it into its folder, have a lot of unsorted files at the top level of the Vault ![]()
