Steps to reproduce
- From the main Obsidian splash screen, click Create
- Enter “Obsidian Sandbox” as the Vault name
- The issue only occurs with this specific vault name
- Click Create
Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? Y
Expected result
I would expect either:
- To see the files and folders that exist in my vault, as if I’d named it anything else, or
- To receive an error message stating something like: “The
Obsidian Sandbox
vault name is reserved for the built-inObsidian Sandbox
feature” (with a link tohttps://help.obsidian.md/sandbox
).
Actual result
The Files pane will not be active; when activated, it will not show any files or folders in the vault. The New note and New folder buttons will still work (i.e., changes will be made to the filesystem); however, you won’t be able to see any files in the Files pane.

Additional information
I suspect the cause is an unintended interaction with the built-in Obsidian Sandbox
feature, which I didn’t know about when I first attempted this. As stated above, I’d expect this vault name to behave as any other or to receive an error message informing me of this built-in feature.
