custom lightweight daily configuration

Hi! Total Obsidian noob here. Working on this (very rough) workspace layout and could use some pointers.

I’ve had real issues with disorganized notes and being unable to retrieve data for various work purposes (tracking hours, clients, documenting for colleagues, eureka moments, custom scripts, etc). The goal is to have a workspace like the one attached, with a master to do list which links to a series of small, easily retrievable resources (links, passwords, script libraries), then an active window for development. I want to be able to open Obsidian, have a fresh copy of this template, and be able to hit save and have it all stored as the daily (or, realistically, 3-5 times daily) set of notes, separate but associated with one another, so I can go back and access easily. I would also like the notes to be different colors (so in this example, 5 colors), and be associated with the corresponding tags. i.e. the tag ‘#ps’ is purple, so is the note background, so is the folder that I go back to view later.

Currently, I just installed a bunch of plugins and am experimenting with Kanban boards, auto note mover, file color, colored tags, and tasks. Based on this very rough template I’ve got, what would you suggest? Any plugins I should be using that I’m not, and vice versa? Current issues are:

  • no automated saving mechanism set up. I need to be able to save this workspace as a set and retrieve the data for extraction easily
  • file names for the notes are going to duplicate constantly. i.e. knowing myself I will open a note and write ‘to do’ or ‘active script’, then when saving overwrite the data. so need each instance called of this setup to save with a string or some such to differentiate, ideally in a weekly folder
  • colored tags plugin doesn’t seem to give much control (granted I haven’t played much with it except for the slider), as I have multiple tags with the same color. so too is the file color folder seemingly complete separate from the tags and note backgrounds. basically need to unify all of them into one single system (#tag1 is red, so is its folder, so is the note background).
  • header/body real estate ratio. the folder and tab view in each note is eating up way too much space. especially for the small ones (credentials, hours) I only need a few lines of space, but like 80% of the space is being wasted between the tabs, the menu, the giant title, and all the padding
  • kanban board doesn’t seem to be right for my use case, should I remove entirely and replace with a list? it also created the redundant step of making a list, then making an item on the list, then making a note from the item.

I’m going to dive into all this myself, but I also work like 12 hours a day and have been failing at documentation, so any inside tips to help accelerate the development process / save me a bunch of time going down the wrong rabbit hole or not using a basic feature would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much!
