As a user who appreciates good typography and punctuation, I would like Obsidian to provide a setting that enables support for automatic curly quotes:

  • changing " to “ when preceding a word
  • changing " to ” when following a word

e.g., "word" → “word”

:+1: I would support this request and extend it depending on the language setting:
e.g. for German, “word” -> „word“ and ‘word’ -> ‚word‘

And this would be great as well:
>>word<< -> »word« and >word< -> ›word‹

Hey all, I’ve built a plugin that handles this: Smart Typography Plugin (curly quotes, em dashes, ellipses)

It’s basic at the moment, but I hope to expand it to support multiple language conventions.
