Controlling installation location

Until about a couple of versions ago, I was able to choose the install location. This is important, because I don’t have administrator privileges and am in effect running Obsidian in portable mode. In the past couple of versions, Obsidian installs automatically when I click on the downloaded.exe file, and I get an error message saying that it’s not associated with a default program. The error message gives a long pathway to a Folder in AppData. I learned from trial and error that I can copy the Obsidian folder from that pathway and paste it into where I have previously installed Obsidian, and have it work after that. It would be very helpful to be able to control where Obsidian is installed. Thanks.

I use an external hard drive for my work – including installation of software to that drive. I am not sure if I want to proceed to learn about this software if I’ll have to install it to any computer I work at (rather than to the location of my choice).

I realize this is an old thread, but I saw several mentions of “search the forums first” and this is the first feature thread I found that did not have that warning in it.

When I search “portable mode” I find there is a portable version. I’ve never tested this, so don’t count this as an endorsement before researching a bit.
