Hello,
the problem in the heading is
taking place on Macbook Pro, macOS Sonoma 14.5,
when copying text from a website into Obsidian 1.6.5.
Only core plugins turned on, community plugins turned off.
When using CMD+C from a website and CMD+V in an Obsidian document, an extra newline is inserted at the beginning and the following text is displayed without proper hyphenation. This also breaks callouts as text is displayed as a single long line… that’s how I actually found out the text to be broken in my case.
As many suggest a workaround for plain text to be the Edit > Paste and Match Style menu OR Option+Shift+Command+V to paste without formatting works BUT only if one uses such an approach from the start.
IF you paste with CMD+V and then copy this text from the Obsidian document with CMD+C the workaround stops working.
Not sure if its a bug of Obsidian or macOS though. But it definitely gave me a headache for quite some time when the original website’s text was no longer available and I tried recopying the saved text from Obsidian document using different editing programs (as simple as possible in terms of text formatting) but without any success. Some kind of wrong invisible formatting is still being copied with text…
The interesting part was that I found that pasting such troublesome text in the url address bar and copying from it gave the plain text, so this could be another workaround for those facing the same behaviour.
