Hi
I am using Scrivener for a very long time now, but I think this has become very slow on my Ipad. So I want to use Obsidian, which seems very useful and powerful.
Trouble: I need to use Canvas for ordering my notes and having it ordered simultaneously on my notes line and my canvas. I need to work in both, Canvas and notes, reordering etc.
Scrivener was not perfect for that but it was possible.
In Obsidian, the very good Canvas2Document allows from Canva to doc, but not to the notes, so on one direction only.
Does some plugin allows it? I did not find any.
Thank you!
Cyril
Hello,
I only came across your request after a while, so quickly my feedback before the thread is closed
I am the developer of the plugin canvas2document. The plugin is aligned in its current form in various canvas constellations. These constellations can be very different: not hierarchical, “chaotic”, can contain many sub threads of a storey or one total thread, can be very much geared towards multimedia embedding and, above all, can have nothing to do with writing (longform) documents. The plugin is also used to simply be able to copy text from nodes into documents and not have to do everything manually individually.
The workflow in Scriverer as far as I can judge this is a much more structured and therefore visually brainstorming more limited than in obsidian canvas.
Maybe you could explain a little more about your use case to me.
“need to work in both, Canvas and notes, reordering etc.”: in Obsidian Canvas the Content of the Canvas Cards can be notes but also even more it can be a part of the document, when converted by the plugin. Do you mean you need notes as metadata for the actual document, like describing it?
“Canvas2Document allows from Canva to doc, but not to the notes, so on one direction only.”: What would be the approach to change the canvas again from the notes? Just take the canvas as a reference for the graphic structure and then the document conversion as a later output.
Canvas with embedded full-fledged sub-documents let you develop the parts of a document completely separately, section by section, while these parts are contained in your large brainstorming using the graphic structure.
For the plugin canvas2document i can say that i will soon develop a version that is focused on this use case of writing longform documents.

Steffen
Hi, and thank you for your answer!
I didn’t know obsidian very well when writing my demand. I did not know that this was not possible to order notes like you want. So now I know that this is not possible to contrain notes order by canva.
What I will try now is to use your plugin to see how it works precisely when I link notes in canvas. I will see if this works fine when my links are simple.
Thanks again.
Best regards.
