I have a question about Canvas: The fields are highlighted in white with shadows, and I can’t manage to change this setting. I’ve tried all kinds of CSS snippets - unfortunately without success (I’m not very good at these things). Does anyone have any advice?

Are you using the default theme with no custom CSS snippets? If not, what do you use for your theme and what CSS snippet you may have activated that you’d forgotten about?
Truth be told, I’ve not been in a canvas on the latest version.
Maybe add your Debug info as well (Command Palette → Show Debug Info); paste the output here please.

I am using the Minimal theme and have also installed the Style Settings plugin. I have looked, but can’t find the corresponding settings anywhere. I have removed all CSS snippets for testing - no change. So that can’t be the problem.
I have found the error! It was a setting in the Card View Mode plugin. 
But I can’t set a transparent background there, so there is still a white background.
Sometimes it’s worthwhile to check if a plugin has not been updated in a while:
Go to Community Plugins → Search:
So again, like last time, when I told you to let that other plugin go, maybe it’s time to look for a replacement, in this case a CSS solution that hopefully would stand the test of time…
