incredible work, mike !!
Found plugin Attachments MD Indexer that resolves the Canvas outgoing links issue in a different way - it simply creates mirroring notes for Canvas files (and PDFs and images too).
This approach lets you actually see these items on your graph view and serves as a nice backup for your canvas files. Plus, these MD files can be easily passed to ChatGPT for context if needed. There are probably many more benefits to this approach yet to be discovered!
The main disadvantage is that sometimes you need to go through the index note to get to the source. But this feels like a clear and straightforward solution to the problem.
It’s pretty stable in my experience, so if you’re tired of your Canvas files being “invisible” in your graph, give it a try!
Clearly this is a must. The fact is that canvas should be considered as authentic visual notes and note as mere attachements. Doing so every wikilink and back link could be seen in the graph view.
This also makes doing vault cleanups a really cumbersome process. Let’s say you created a note with a bunch of images attached to it, and after some time you delete that note. You can really easily find all of those orphan images by simply looking for files that don’t have any backlinks, and then delete those files. However, this is not possible anymore with obsidian canvas, because you might have images that are only used on canvases and they will appear as if they don’t have any backlinks, but they actually are still mentioned on the canvas.
pleasee I really need this feature, it would help me a lot!!!
Please do this. I almost deleted a large set of images that showed no backlinks just before I realized they were used in Canvases.
This pattern seems inconsistent with how images and notes always show outgoing and backlinks.
