Canvas: display only auto-resizing images or thumbnails while keeping originals intact

Use case or problem

Canvas lag and freeze with large number of images, especially large.
I understand that Obsidian not a PureRef, but I need to constantly think about what picture I can put in canvas and which ones cannot.

Proposed solution

1. Selection of the maximum size of displayed images in Canvas. If image bigger - automatic, percentage, resizing and converting to .jpg.
2. For example, for specific image: click on image, “show only thumbnail”, size selection. Or global: Canvas setting, show only thumbnails, size selection.

A rougher and more universal solution in form of internal or external script -

Proposed solution I proposed a more complex implementation in But, probably, it’s much simpler to just have a universal script that finds all the pictures in Obsidian folder, makes copies of originals, resize pictures without changing the names, and, if specified, converting them into .jpg. Button which you can press when canvases or notes begin to slow down and freeze. Preferably in Obsidian UI, but not…
