I understand I need to do some set up first to use CSS and must first locate the .obsidan folder within the snippets folder with Command + Shift + . Nothing appears when I do this in the snippets folder, it only becomes visible in my vault but then I still can’t see it in the snippets folder. Additionally, I only have the option to add a folder not a file when I’m in the snippets folder. I am very new to Obsidian and not well versed in computers or technology in general. Any idea on what is happening? (in lay language pls)
No there is no .obsidian folder inside the snippets folder. There is only one .obsidian folder that stores all of your settings.
Just put the CSS file in the snippets folder directly.
Then go to settings → Appearance, and make sure you turn on the snippet.
This sounds like the issue. What are you referring to here? Do you mean in Finder?
Finder has no option to just make a new text file. You need to make the .css file in a text editor.
Instead of messing around with the local file manager, I would strongly suggest to install the CSS Editor plugin. This would then allow you to open, edit, toggle, and even delete CSS snippets file in the correct folder without you ever leaving Obsidian.
In most of my vaults, if not all, I’ve installed this plugin, and setup a hotkey for the CSS Editor: Open quick switcher
to something like Cmd + Ctrl + C (similar for windows is Ctrl + Alt + C). Through this menu I do all my work related to the CSS snippet files.
