Can I get Obsidian to index (and open) .txt files?

What I’m trying to do

I am using Obsidian with other tools and feel the freedom of using text files
But other tools (namely clipboard manager) can sync only to .txt files. However, in Obsidian, .txt files are opened extrenally (and not indexed).

Can I configure Obsidian to handle arbitrary file extension to handle internally (as if it would be a .md file)?

What: I’d like Obsidian to be able to read and save files as .txt as well as .md, with the same file contents. Why: Interoperability that would blow my mind! I’ve been using Dokuwiki for years for one of the same reasons that I’m excited about Obsidian: it runs on a directory of simple text files.
