Can I add an arbitrary field to note's metadata?

What I’m trying to do:

I am slowly converting a smallish collection of recipes from Evernote to Obsidian. These have the ingredients formatted as an unordered list. It occurred to me that I might make a metadata field just for ingredients, which would list them, without quantities, so that I could very quickly search for recipes that used, say, ancho chilis.

I don’t want to make these ordinary tag because I have too many of those already and need to sort and clean them up.

So my question is whether I can add arbitrary fields to metadata and have them searched later with something like dataview.

Dataview is perfect for this. It supports key:: value pairs for this in the body of the note or you can just add it to YAML. Read more here.
