Best Approach for linking names

I’m just getting started with Obsidian and am using it in part as a research tool for my family history research.

In my notes, I want to refernce individuals and have them linked. So for instance if I mention “John Doe” I would currently surround the name with square brackets to create a ghost link so he becomes [[John Doe]].

I may then create note for this individual, but I don’t want to title the note “John Doe” as there may be multiple people called John Doe in my research. Instead I would rather have something like “John Doe - 1729-1801 (ID 627)”.

But, I don’t want this to appear in and narrative text I’m writing when tring to link the mention of John Doe within the text as it would look messy and overly repetitive.

So, my question. Is there way I can create a link from my “John Doe” narrative text to the lengthier titled note without changing what is writtin in the narrative text.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

In my case, I first created a folder called People, and every time I make a note about a person who lived or is living, I move it to the folder.

I also have a template for People which has a property called ‘aliases’ where I can basically add a small text or nickname or alias that I can use when I’m writing normally. Aiases allow me to mention the alias instead of the full file names of the people.

Here’s what that template looks like

Thanks, that sounds perfect for what I want to do. I have a template and properties but didn’t know about the aliases.
