Hi, there Experienced Members of the forum. i just wanted ask you, Could you please suggest some basic property option that i would need in obsidian and absolutely need them, like date created, aliases, tag, Description.
i just want to have some property that i will get used to by using.
here are what i am using for now.
what i want to have least property name and with covering almost all thing i need. i am keeping tags property as divider between need and optional. i use Category as an alternative for folder (i took this idea from the CEO of obsidian : About me — Steph Ango and i mostly following his method.) WWH for what Why How at once, it’s alternative for description.
The overall rule with anything in Obsidian generally is start small. This applies to plugins, workflows, and I’d say also properties.
Obsidian is what you want and need it to be, so don’t worry to much about what others are using. This depends on what you use Obsidian for and how you’re using it.
For instance, you don’t necessarily need all those properties in each note. You could have one set of properties in one group, and others in a different group.
So my idea is try getting rid of all or most of those properties, and then figuring out as you work, what you actually need, and adding them in later one by one.
I, personally, don’t need an Updated date field. For regular notes I have a DateAdded field, just because I’m interested in it. And sometimes I add a Category field, if I want to link it to similar notes.
Some of the properties in your image seem a little redundant (to me), like tags, status, type kinda all give you similar information. Also, I’m not sure I need a cover or banner on each note. You could add one or both of those to bigger collection notes, like lists or tables.
I feel like it would be a lot of work to just to take care of the up-keep of all those properties. That time could also be spent working on whatever you’re actually using Obsidian for.
Of course this is just an idea. You do you
this are the only uses. other category are optional, that i created before hand, knowing that i need them. (i am switching from my previous Vault to new vault), to me, is just their to fill up the space. it’s mainly is a source category. and i hardly use them, i just kept it for collecting links. i forget to do it when i read articles, this will act like a reminder. SL is what i will use all time, to give each note a unique serial. and update is there only for name, it’s just will be used, when i made major update in my notes (i might not even use it). Status is for, how to say, umm. i most of time create a file and add little, and most only them are just so new that you can just delete them, as they don’t have anything worth reading. so status is there to remind me of new files and on hold file, along with not started
