Leaving a comment here for anyone who comes across this thread.
As I’ve grown tired of having to rely solely on external editors to edit the YAML source of a Base, I’ve released a plugin that provides a quick toggle between ‘Base mode’ and ‘Base Source mode’.
I call it… Base Source Editor (wow).
