I use obsidian for stories, and would love to see the graph map of this: my story in the middle then ideas, plot, and characters connected to it.
However, I’m duplicating a folder of all these so that it’s easier for me to start a story. (I.E, I don’t have to manually make a page for ideas, story, characters every single time). This folder includes the template for my stories, and linking to each other.
I’m wondering if there’s a way to duplicate the folder, and they’ll all automatically link up to the new story as the centerpiece?
The problem is that when I duplicate they all connect back to the old story I duplicated from.
(I have just gotten the obsidian app yesterday so please bear with me.)
You could maybe make a more sophisticated Template using Templater or a plugin like it to achieve this sort of automation, but I think we’d need more details on your templates/files/links to provide more guidance than that. There isn’t anything built in that would do what you’re describing.
What sort of details would you need to make this happen? I’m okay with going more complicated to do this — I had a hunch it wasn’t built in. I’ll try to look into templater and plug ins.
How do you think I could make this happen though? Any more advice? It’d be appreciated!
What files are involved, and what needs to be linked to what and where. I’m thinking you could make a Templater script/template to take an input with the name of the note it needs to be linked to, and then you have Templater create the appropriate files.
