At-rest encryption options for smartphones?

Hi. On the computer, I have my Obsidian vault in a Veracrypt encrypted disk. In the case a “malicious agent” threatens to access my vault (thief, co-habitants, corrupt local administration, etc.) I know I can just pull the cable and the mounted virtual disk is lost as RAM powers off.

I’ve been trying to find a comparable method for smartphones (f.e. Android): the idea is to encrypt a folder containing the Obsidian vault, which is then decrypted on-the-fly once per boot by password prompt. If the phone is turned off, the password has to be inserted again to access the vault.

So far I have not found a way. Any idea is welcome.

Self-repling for anybody’s looking. EDS requires root. Cryptomator isn’t yet capable (cannot use SAF). Only chance is with global native encryption (strong password not pin) in conjuntion with extended unlock / smart lock, which will not bother you all day but still deny access at boot.
