Applying template which contains a link to an alias doesn't work

What I’m trying to do

I’d like my main note template to apply a link back to my daily note, but I changed the date format of my daily note so the title will read something like “Monday, September 23 2024” instead of the default date format.

Things I have tried

I added a reference in my note template [[{{date}}]]. Then I added an alias for {{date}} in my daily note template which uses the default date format ie “2024-09-23”

The problem

When I apply the main note template it does create a reference to a note “2024-09-23” but it doesn’t recognize it as an alias, so opening the link will create a new blank note with the same title.
If I edit the link by subtracting a character and then putting it back it WILL recognize it as an aliased reference.

Is there a way to get around this? Your help is appreciated.

EDIT:
For anyone that may see this I discovered that you can format a date with {{date: FORMAT}}

In my case this was {{date:dddd, MMMM DD YYYY}}

Hope this helps someone.
