I have been using the Smart Connections plugin for a while now, and I like the ability to use my own embedding model for RAG. Recently, the developer decided to put all meaningful functionalities behind a paywall. I would like to know if anyone has tried an alternative and what your results have been.
I’m not using the plugin anymore. Actually, I still have it installed in one of my vaults but I find my RAG too weak (and use CursorAI app instead).
Does it help to revert back to your earlier version?

I made an account on obsidian forum solely to discuss this, there have been suggestions to revert to version 3.0.80 but that wouldn’t be viable long term as we don’t even know how long before it becomes obsolete because of the newer ai models not being supported, which is a very real possibility.
I found this plugin called obsidian-gemini-helper and have been using it since yesterday as a replacement for smart chat along with the basic smart connections plugin, I think the suddenness of the dev’s move should prompts someone to fork the last free version and vibe code its development.
