Allow Tree Structure In Backlinks and Outgoing Links

Use case or problem

Essentially I want to navigate my backlinks/outgoing links as if there where folders (tree structure)

I want to be able to view my backlinks and outgoing links as a tee structure whereby the directories of the back linked notes, form the tree.

This would allow another layer of discoverability. Since you can now navigate your backlinks as if you were navigating your vaults directory.

Here is an example taken from the plugins:

This is normal backlinks:

This is the tree structure for the back links:

Proposed solution

Implement an option to view backlinks/outgoing links as a tree.

Perhaps there can be an option to switch between the list view we have now and a hierarchy view?

this is a plugin that does what I’m asking for backlinks

this is a plugin that does what I’m asking for outgoing links

These two plugins do exactly as I am asking for, but they don’t include the obsidian native features like search etc

Obsidian team, if you see this,

It would be really cool if there was a toggle between how the back links is currently done (though you guys should show full path on it) and the tree view.

Unfortunately, you didn’t again mention anything about about the tree structure coming from the directories.

sorry if I’m misunderstanding, but aren’t backlinks & outgoing links only generated from directories?

Neither is concerned with directories.

A backlink for a note is a link from another note to that note. (Backlinks - Obsidian Help)

Outgoing links … shows links from the active note (Outgoing links - Obsidian Help)

Also, your “use case” section doesn’t describe a use case. If you could view your backlinks and outgoing links as a tree structure, what would you use it for?

I would significantly prefer this view, but took me a bit figure out what it means
