Allow folding into non-indented / bulleted paragraph

Use case or problem

It would be great if it was possible to allow folding bullet points into the line / paragraph immediately above.

  • Currently, you need the first line to be a bullet
    • Bullets to be folded
    • Bullets to be folded
    • Bullets to be folded

Proposed solution

Line that I want to fold into

  • Bullets to be folded
  • Bullets to be folded
  • Bullets to be folded

This request seems like the most intuitive way for bullet points to work in the context of folding, yet it suprisingly doesn’t currently. I’ll add some more detail to make the case.

When I write a note, I use the 6 markdown heading levels to add manageable structure, and depend critically on ability to fold sections and subsections.

Below the lowest level, the next mechanism for structure is to add bullet points under a statement. And then sub-bullets below each bullet, as appropriate.

Alternatively, sometimes I don’t want subheadings as such, but just statements which sometimes have child details under them (possibly even a hierarchy of such children).

These bullets under a statement represent more detail for the statement. It feels natural to want to sometimes fold them up, just like any other folding situation.

Arguably, another way to add more detail under a statement is by simply indenting. Interestingly, doing so results in the statement being foldable, to hide the indented lines. But simply indenting is not as readable as using leading bullets.

So if the detail uses bullet points to improve readability, then alas it is not foldable.

Punchline: Would love bullets under a top-level non-heading non-bullet statement to be foldable too!
