Hi everyone,
I’ve been using Obsidian’s PDF preview feature to work with my study materials, and I love how it integrates with my workflow. I create hyperlinks within PDFs using Adobe Acrobat Pro, which works well for some links (in PDF preview) but not others. Here’s what I’ve encountered:
- Working Links:
- Web Links: Hyperlinks to websites open without any issues.
- Page-Specific Links within the Same PDF: Links that jump to a specific page with a specific zoom level within the same PDF also work perfectly.
- Problematic Links:
- Links to Other Documents: While these work when opened directly in Adobe Acrobat, they don’t seem to open in Obsidian’s PDF preview
- Local File Links: Similarly, hyperlinks to local files won’t open. (file:///…)
- Obsidian-specific Links: I’m particularly interested in opening links like this one:
obsidian://open?vault=Obsidian&file=Archives/Excalidraw/Drawings.md#^group=loV9fSi6
. Work well in Adobe Acrobat when I open it on hyperlinked text, but I can’t seem to open them in Obsidian’s PDF preview.
It would be incredibly helpful if I could open the 3rd type of hyperlinks directly from Obsidian’s PDF preview, as I use them frequently to navigate between notes and drawings.
Is there a potential update in the works to support these types of links?
Thanks in advance for any insights!
Note: to enable opening all types of hyperlinks in Adobe Acrobat, the following step are necessary: edit in regedit \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\Privileged: bProtectedMode → 0
Is there any special permission in Obsidian that could allow opening any hyperlink in its PDF preview?
