All my work has been deleted but I can see the folder still please help me open it

What I’m trying to do

Hello, I am so devastated. I logged onto Obsidian after a year’s break to find that all my work was gone. Is there any way to get it back, or am I just out of luck?

Things I have tried

I have looked up so many different threads and help sites in the hopes of getting all my work back. When looking at the folders I can see the folder I want last opened last year, the issue is when I try to open this folder in file explorer it does nothing, if I try to look it up in obsidian there are no vaults or file recovery. If anyone can help I would be so grateful, I don’t think there is anyway I could recreate that work and would be crushed.

What does the file explorer say about the folder properties (like folder size)? Can you add a screenshot? And what means

…when I try to open this folder in file explorer it does nothing,…

Just shows an empty folder?

Obsidian shouldn’t delete vaults like that, especially when it’s not open.

What do you mean by “logged into Obsidian” — just happened this app, or something else? There’s no login required unless you subscribe to one of the services or bought a license.

What operating system is this on? What folder are you looking in? Were you using any kind of sync service? I’m guessing you don’t have backups, but do you have backups?

You can try searching your computer for the names of your vault folders, or any filenames you remember, or filenames ending in .md.
