All my images are suddenly missing

What happened

Hi everyone,

I use Obsidian with Dropbox as my sync tool. I suddenly realized that I’ve lost all my images that were linked in my notes. (as you can see in the screenshot)
Those images files have disappeared from my Obsidian vault. I looked directly in the Dropbox folder and they don’t seem to be there either.
I’ve used Obsidian for a couple of years now so I’m surprised that this has happened suddenly.
One thing I did do recently was access my Obsidian Vault in Dropbox on my new Mac. I’ve been using it on my Windows machine till now. And I’ve been using it on my Windows and Mac machines for a few weeks now.
I don’t know when these images disappeared.

The only images I still have are some that I added to my vault on February 19th. So whatever happened, it happened before that I guess.

At this point I’m resigned to the fact that I’ve lost my images somehow in some weird Dropbox syncing issue.
But is there something I can still check for?
And anything I can do to prevent it from happening again?

Thanks!

Are you on a paid Dropbox plan? You might have snapshot revisions you can roll back to. You can check online in your account. (Different plans keep data for different times.)

If you’re on the free version, maybe you went past the 2 GB limit and some files got purged? I think you would have gotten notifications about that though.

Thanks for your reply.
I’m not on a paid plan in Dropbox but I also haven’t maxed out my storage. I will check to see if they have a record of deleting any files.
