Some ideas for the upcoming more advanced search.

Queries:

  • “search term” (exact match)
  • OR, AND
    • (exclude word e.g.: “oranges -apples”)
    • wildcard to match anyword, phrase (e.g. "coding * tools)
  • AROUND(X) (how many words can be in between two phrases e.g.: “apple AROUND(4) iphone”
  • ~ (synonims, this would be awesome! e.g.: “~awesome”)

This is inspired from Google.

Please add any other ideas!

Also filters for folders, links and tags, maybe using in: and out:, perhaps with auto-complete

On the topic I just came across a UI thought while on Letterboxd.

Couldn’t the list of Show/Hide be simplified a switch toggle like the first filter “Fade watched films” and the UI be more simplified?

I remember feeling that Roam’s filter UI was kinda bulky and unintuitive.

So some convenient toggle options, filters, etc would be nice.

Also tag/link cloud to toggle to be included/excluded would be nice.

+1 for advanced search … but I thought that’s what’s currently being worked on.

I suppose we’re not very aware on whats being included, right?

I think it’s always nice to support the creators with implementation detail ideas. Especially when we know what’s being worked on at the moment. In the end they can take what’s good and leave what’s not the right fit for the app now. :slight_smile:

Some of this was implemented. I think it’s better to open new feature request for every point that it missing.
