Ability to navigate and operate on folders

Hi y’all. New here, reapproaching Obsidian and realized this extremely basic feature doesn’t work at all. I can’t even consider using this application without simple keyboard navigation. Thanks!

Imagine trying to use Mac Finder or Windows File Explorer without keyboard sensitivity.
Not having this feature is like having a small stone in your shoe—constant irritation!

This does feel like an oversight. Navigating to deeply nested folders can be cumbersome. Not being able to search for and open folders via the Quick Switcher limits the ability to navigate quickly—the problem it’s supposed to solve. The Quick Switcher should parse folders and show them alongside notes.

There’s also a FR for this for the Quick Switcher++ plugin: Search for and select a folder · Issue #38 · darlal/obsidian-switcher-plus · GitHub

I got hear searching for this feature (that I assumed was here).

What I imagine is a hotkey that jumps from a note pane (or other) directly to the file tree. Then the up/down arrows work like they do now. Then add the basic features of file explorer: ENTER to open that folder (for arrow navigation) and BACKSPACE to exit/close the folder.

For consistency their ought to be able to jump to the right pane as well. It wouldn’t be bad to have a way to go back and forth between files and search in the left pane (without a mouse).

I wasn’t aware of this request before, but I recently developed a plugin for navigating to folders. It has already been submitted to the Obsidian community plugin store for review.
